I love how this little book is organized by main body color and shows photos of both genders...females are usually less flashy so a lot of the ladies are in the 'brown' section. The photos are very detailed and the guide is incredibly comprehensive, given that the book is only about 5" x 7." I think that makes it the perfect size to tuck in your bag if you're out birdwatching. I have a corner office with 2 windows that overlook trees and bird feeders. I keep this on my desk for quick reference. It features 111 most common birds of Wisconsin, so if you're a hardcore birder out during the North American spring migration season, it might not be comprehensive enough for your identification needs. For someone with a more casual approach or new to birdwatching, this will be perfect.

Since my husband retired in 2009 & we built our new home in a great area for having bird feeders all around the yard, we use this book all the time. Whenever we see a new bird by a feeder, we immediately go to this book and we will be able to identify it with no problem. We have learned so much about area birds, we feel like experts. It's a great book for beginners, very helpful with lots of info about all their habits, what to feed them, how they change colors from summer to winter, and great closeup photos for identification.

We put a couple bird feeders in our back yard this summer, and within a few weeks had many daily visitors. We'd all look out the window and keep asking each other, "What's that white and black one with the red on its head?" "Look at that one hopping upside down to the feeder! What the heck IS that?" Running to a computer to ID each bird leaves something to be desired. I can't tell you how many times Google Images thought my description was of Donald Duck.My son is going for his Naturalist badge in Cub Scouts, and one of the things he can do for the badge is keep a log of birds he sees for a week. So he kept looking out at the bird feeders, again asking what each bird's name was. Good ol' mom decided to pull out a book to help out. I got out the Birds of Wisconsin Field Guide, which I'd bought awhile back, thinking that owning it would teach me birds' names by osmosis (it didn't).What a great little book. Descriptions of the birds and tips about things to look (or listen) for are informative and helpful, and every aspect of the book is organized well. It never takes me more than a few seconds to find the bird I'm looking for.The pages are color coded, so if you flip to the red part you find birds that are primarily red, the gray part has birds that are primarily gray, and so on. The color sections are then sorted by size, so if you are looking at a teeny tiny bird, start at the first pages of that color; larger birds are farther in. Some male and females are colored differently. In these cases there's a smaller snapshot of the other-colored bird on the main colored bird's page. Ingenious! If a bird is similar-looking to other birds, those birds (with page number) are referenced on each similar-looking bird's page.In a very short amount of time our family has gone from thinking every bird we saw was a sparrow to being able to identify easily around 15 types of birds in our backyard. Our now dog-eared copy of Birds of Wisconsin sits on our kitchen windowsill, where we're still looking at it daily.

This book is amazing! It is great to have full color photographs of books to compare to what we are seeing outside our window. The book sorts birds by color which makes them much easier to find. My family loves it. My 5 and 7 year old can use it independently.

I've had a copy of this handy bird guide for years but this was an updated version ... And if you want, you can order the CD of bird sounds as a companion to the book for further acquaint you with birds in your yard!Keep a record of birds appearing at your house or on hikes by marking the page. Small enough to tuck into your purse, backpack or jacket pocket for easy access!. A nice little gift for a birthday or student or bird lover!

This book is a very useful guide to the birds of Wisconsin. With the color coded page tabs, it's very easy to quickly identify birds you see. Simply look under the colored tab that matches the primary color of the bird you are trying to identify. It also provides all the pertinent information about the bird regarding the size, migration route, feeding and nesting patterns, etc. I highly recommend this book to anyone who would like to know more about the birds that are coming to their feeders, or birds they just come across. The book is small enough in size to fit into your pocket, so it's easy to take along on nature hikes.

This book is wonderful! The colored pages are so beautiful! It’s a must-have for me as a beginner birder. The price is great, & the shipping time was great too. I can’t wait to start using it all the time!!!

We love this bird book! I love how it is organized by color. When see a new bird while we are camping we just look it up by its main color. It shows male and female coloring. It is a great size for carrying it with you. I would love one bigger for our camper!
